BRING ITALIAN TO YOUR SCHOOL! Why Should a Young Child Take a Foreign Language Class? Children are naturally geared from birth to acquire languages. Young children, in particular, are developing the neural pathways necessary for language acquisition. In fact, with methodical and consistent exposure to numerous languages children can learn them all simultaneously. However, if these neural pathways are not developed and reinforced at a young age, the window of opportunity closes forever. According to research, some of the immediate and long-range benefits of foreign language study are:
Why Italian? Our Mission For the young learner Italian is taught through play, games, songs, rhymes, stories, and experiences with arts & crafts, theater, and dance. The use of visuals, props, realia, and hands-on activities are integral components of our instruction. Proposal A): After-School Italian Classes La Piazza di Carolina (LPDC) proposes the offering of its Italian language after school program for children on the premises of Your school. LPDC will provide a qualified teacher of Italian to teach 1 hour classes to students in Pre-K, or in K-4. The teacher will follow a well-rounded curriculum that is consistent with the New York State Standards for the teaching of Languages Other Than English (LOTE). Classes will meet once per week after school. Classes could also meet twice per week if so requested by the school and/or families. Tuition: $125 FOR 10 WEEKS, 10 STUDENTS MINIMUM Families will agree to purchase the text and workbook: Raccontami 1, $33.00 or Raccontami 2, $34.00 (price may be slightly higher due to shipping charges and publisher increases). Students of the program could also have the option of joining our Italian Christmas Concert at the Assumption Church in Tuckahoe in December. Separate rehearsals are required. Proposal B): In-School Italian Classes La Piazza di Carolina will come to your school to teach a 30 minute segment of Italian to your preschoolers, kindergarteners, or elementary school students.
